Asking for Help

I’m going to talk to you about my mistakes personally because remember that’s how we get better. I have had a lot of ups and downs in 2018 in the area of health and wellness. At the beginning of 2018, I was probably at one my worst physical shapes I’ve ever been in. I weighted 245lbs and had a big belly. I know there is a video of me out there trying to do burpees and it’s embarrassing to say the least. But I joked about it and brushed it off.

So let me say this to you guys: No one can make you better only you. Lets say that again: “no one can make you better only you.” Now you can get help along the way; that’s why CrossFit Plainfield is here. Yes you need a coach! I have several of them for different areas in my life; and they have coaches who in turn have coaches, who have coaches…get it?! But if you don’t follow the guidance and take action nothing will change.

You wished and you hoped… how did that work out for you? I’m guessing about as well as it did for me ….. not so good. Some of you have talked to me and heard me say that you have 50,000 thoughts a day and you can talk yourself out of anything. We are all busy right? I don’t know anyone who isn’t. Think about it, kids work, spouse, significant other, family, TV, phone, school, friends, laundry, grocery shopping…the list goes on and on I get it.

Okay back to me: 245lbs…. damn.. and not in a good way. I needed help. CFP was doing a nutrition challenge—I’m in. I paid my money, went to the nutrition talk- I got this. I did great! Felt awesome, and I could do burpees again. Workouts were more fun and my belly was shrinking, down to 218lbs! Then I got in my own head: “I don’t need to eat as well because I’m doing pretty good.” “I could drink on Wednesdays again, it won’t hurt me.” Then it happens, I start eating worse and worse. I skip workouts because I’m tired and now I’m drinking everyday. 218 very quickly went to 230. I learned from the last mistake because I’m not back to 245 but my clothes are tight, my shirts don’t fit, I can’t suck it in anymore…
I know I’m not the only one who struggles with this which is why I wanted to share this with you. I know what you are going through and I know that I can help you.

Things to keep in mind:

  1. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to ask for help
  2. Show up, it gets better—I promise
  3. Its going to be hard
  4. Do what we tell you to do
  5. You have the time to be healthy for you and your family
  6. Its easier to keep going then stopping and starting

Remember: it’s up to YOU and only YOU. Don’t blame someone or something else for you not doing it.
Myself and the team at CFP are here to help support you and we believe in you all.
