Unplug

Recently I had the chance to get away, which doesn’t happen very often, and found myself alone. I took this opportunity to unplug from everything – phone, TV, Facebook, etc.

I will admit, at first it was kind of awkward.  What would I do with myself?

I went to breakfast, ordered my meal, and had coffee.

As I sat there, I watched people. Watched how they interacted with one another or simply didn’t interact at all because they had their faces in a phone.

I listened – I mean really listened.

Do you know how many things we miss hearing each and every day because we are too preoccupied?

When was the last time you stopped and listened?
*Listened to all the different sounds of nature around you;
*Heard the sound of water in the distance;
*Listened to the passing cars;
*Heard laughter from kids playing.

As I sat there, unplugged from all the craziness of life, do you know what I felt? A sense of calm!

I was not concerned with what was going on back at the gym (heck, I knew that was being taken care of); I wasn’t concerned about what anyone thought about me sitting by myself. I was happy and content in that very moment!

Our lives are so completely busy that we walk around every day with 15 things on our “To Do” list and throughout the day more gets added. We hustle until bedtime and get up and do it all over again.

I want you to STOP!  Stop and get away from all the things that are pulling you in 10 different directions.

Here is your assignment – go for a walk, go sit on your porch, or wherever you find peace. No phone, no kids, no distractions, nothing…..just you.  10 mins is all you need. Take a few deep breaths, clear your mind, and take in all the amazing sounds, smells, and beauty around you.

My hope for you – a sense of peacefulness.
